At AMIFF 2026 head curator Kjetil Berge will present a retrospectiv of Siri Hermansen.

Siri Hermansen’s art confronts and explores questions of power, human rights, and identity, particularly as they are shaped by the intertwined forces of national politics, global capitalism, and democracy.

Siri Hermansen is a Norwegian filmmaker, photographer, and installation artist whose practice engages with societies undergoing profound change. She is particularly concerned with the strategies of survival and processes of adaptation that emerge in places shaped by uncertainty.

Her work often brings her to sites marked by upheaval and global significance—places where conflict, transformation, and their aftermath have left enduring human and political traces.

Through film and photography, Hermansen creates micro-perspectives on contemporary forms of resistance and survival, placing them in dialogue with recent political history. Her method resembles a form of shared anthropology, shaped through close collaboration with people deeply rooted in the places where she works.

Her sculptural installations approach materials as carriers of transformation, resistance, and reimagination in a world undergoing deep change.
